The Grossmont Women's basketball team is in second place in the PCAC and took on the SD City Knights tonight @ 7 pm @ City college. Tonight both teams are sponsoring the "coaches vs. Cancer" fight and entering the "Pink Zone!"  The Griffins defeated the Knights 68-51 wiht high score of 14 coming from Jacara Roberts and both Ari Meek and Ashleigh King contributed 10 apiece. The chairman of the boards went to Chelsea Maurer with 10.  The Griffins will play Southwestern who is in first place on Friday at the "G-House"!  Come on out and support them as they look to defend their 2010 PCAC Championship! Tip off is 5:00 p.m.!!  Stay tuned.......

The Griffins have worked hard and realize that tonight's game is a must win to stay positioned to take on the Southwestern Jaguars Friday night @ home @ the "G-house" at 5 pm and fight to defend their 2010 PCAC Championship! The Grossmont Griffins have been forming their 2010-2011 team and been hitting the court, the track, the field and the even the pool to prepare for the season.  They are excited and hugry to begin the work it takes to repeat as Champions in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.  This time is taken to test, to train and to step up and define their roles within the squad.  All are proving to be hard working and skilled players and student-ahtletes in the classroom. Coach Caires is looking forward to Megan Ehmke, former Alumni, joining her staff and the assistance of Dustin Puskar as conditioning coach.  The Griffins are putting in the time to prepare mentally as well as physically for the challenges before them.  Stay tuned.....

Grossmont defeats Mira Costa at the G-House!

Grossmont defeats Mira Costa 63-51! The Griffins were led by Phylicia Shultz with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Leticia Ridley chipped in 13 points and 4 steals.  Brittany Robinson added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals to help the Griffins post their 19-4 record.  The team will face a re-match with Imperial Valley Wednesday at home at 5 pm.  This is one of the Griffins 4 losses on season play and they fell by 12 points on their last meeting.  Coach Caires says "The team will be ready to protect the G-House and play Griffin Basketball."  Come on out and support your Griffins on Wednesday!!!  Check out the video clips of last night's victory! Grossmont Defeats Southwestern 78-70

Grossmont Griffins traveled to Chula Vista last night and posted a 78-70 victory against a tenacious and sharp shooting Southwestern squad.  Both teams came out of the gate firing.  Grossmont's Leticia Ridley led with 38 points shooting an incredible 21-26 from the Freethrow line and grabbed 10 rebounds! Ariel Meek added 16 points followed by Brittany Robinson with 11.  Phylicia Shultz had 10 rebounds as she battled on the boards. Grossmont will host Mira Costa at home tomorrow at 5 pm.  The Griffins finshed first round Pacific Coast Athletic Competition posting a 6-1 start and tomorrow's game begins second round play. Come on out and support your 11th ranked Grossmont Women's Basketball team!  Stay tuned.....

Grossmont defeats San Diego City 71-49

The Grossmont Griffins defeated SD City with a final score of 71-49 and all the Griffins had an opportunity to contribute.  Ridley led the Griffins with 14 points and Klein followed with 10 points. Robinson led the team in rebounds with 11 and Lamourelle was next with 6.  The Griffins out-rebounded SD City 46-38 and forced 28 turnovers.  Grossmont was able to post 15 assists on the night. Check out the video of Tiffany Klein knocking down a three at City!

Grossmont will travel to Chula Vista on Wednesday January 27th to face Southwestern College at 5 p.m. to end the first half of Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play. Hope to see you there and stay tuned....

Grossmont Griffins Defeat the Palomar Comets

Grossmont college women's basketball team sure is having a season like never before!This year's team knocked off Palomar who had previously "ran the table" in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference with a 33-0 record which included approximately the past two and half years!  The team is unique and plays together with fire and passion.  Last night the team was led by the play of Brittany Robinson with 19 points and Leticia Ridley with 16.  As impressive was Grossmont stepping up from the free throw line shooting 73% an area that we had committed to improving.  Moreover, Grossmont outrebounded Palomar by 10 boards and that assignment was a team effort.  All Griffins played and scored to capture last night's win.  The team will play Cuyamaca tomorrow January 15 at 5 pm at the G-House!!  Stay tuned.................

Griffins win 22nd Annual Holiday Tournament

The Grossmont College Women's Basketball will be bringing in the New Year with a bang.  A bang that has made an historical milestone in Coach Caires' tenure at the helm of the Lady Griffins.  The team took 5th ranked in state Mt. San Jacinto by 10 pts with a final score of 75-65 to win their tournament.  This is the second time the Griffins have championed a tournament this season.  All tournament honors went to Phylicia Shultz of Grossmont High School and the 2009 tournament MVP was awarded to Leticia Ridley of San Diego High.  The Griffins never let up their intensity the whole game and shot 44% from the field and produced 18 assists.  This year's team will begin Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) games this week opening on the road with Mira Costa on January 6th @ 7 pm and then Imperial Valley @ 7 pm. 

The next home game will be against arch rival Palomar College on January 13 @ 7 pm. The tournament also featured a solid 100 or more fans in the stands and we love to invite YOU...alumni, family, friends, faculty and staff... to come and help us defeat Palomar by wearing your Grossmont Green or Gold to the game on Wednesday the 13th.  We also feature an amazing snack bar hosted by our own Diane Klein!  Go Griffins! and stay tuned....
